India – Oman Key Happenings
1. Celebration of 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations
India and Oman marked seven decades of diplomatic relations with a series of events during the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat. A commemorative logo and book were unveiled by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi on February 16, 2025.

2. Advancement of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Negotiations
Both nations agreed to expedite discussions for the early signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This decision followed productive talks between India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef.

3. Oman Hosts Indian Ocean Conference
On February 16, 2025, Oman hosted the 8th Indian Ocean Conference under the theme “Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership.” The event underscored Oman’s commitment to enhancing maritime security and fostering sustainable maritime trade.

Industry Insights & Trends
At GTC 2025, Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang introduced the next-generation AI chips, Blackwell Ultra and Vera Rubin. These advancements are expected to substantially enhance AI capabilities, with the Rubin AI chip slated for release in late 2026 and Rubin Ultra in 2027. Nvidia also unveiled Isaac GR00T N1, an open-source model for developing humanoid robots, and announced collaborations with companies like General Motors to integrate AI systems into self-driving cars.
European Union lawmakers cautioned against efforts to weaken the stringent regulations proposed in the AI Act. They emphasized that making key provisions voluntary could allow major tech companies to bypass essential rules designed to prevent AI misuse, such as generating false or harmful content and interfering with elections. The European Commission aims to balance regulation with encouraging AI investment, drafting a code of practice for AI models expected to be finalized in May.
